Install base pin as per the
instructions supplied, deepen the latch notch as needed to give the
latch full engagement and full depth in the notch.
|
Notice the crooked head as shown here.
The notch must be deepened more to square up this pin with the barrel.
|
The pointed cap screw is inserted in
the base pin and screwed in until it makes firm contact with the
barrel.
|
This is how it should look, lined up
properly, and screw tight.
|
With the front of the frame masked off,
LIGHTLY tap the screw with a 2 or 4 Ounce ball peen hammer.
|
Here's the mark we just made. This is
where we will drill our recess in the barrel.
|
Put one or two layers of masking tape
around the barrel to protect the finish, leaving the mark we just made
exposed. Place the drilling collar around the barrel and line up the
hole with the mark on the barrel. Make sure the hole lines up
perfectly with the mark, and snug the collar cap screws securely.
CHECK ALIGNMENT AGAIN! Make sure the hole is lined up perfectly. I
used a .130" diameter drill with a stop collar on it to drill a
recess .070" deep in the barrel as shown in the next photo

 |
Here is our finished job. Please notice,
the screw is extra long, and the shank must be filed down until the
head of the screw seats firmly into its recess in the Base Pin. The
shank of the screw should fit into the drilled recess, but not bottom
itself in the recess. This will cause pin bending and the screw will
loosen up quickly. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have
any questions.
